For an average-sized home with a roof area of 150 to 200 square metres, expect to pay $13,000 to $25,000 for a new COLORBOND roof.
Most COLORBOND roofs have a warranty period of around 45 years – and, with proper maintenance, can easily last 60 to 70 years. (Keep in mind that you may need to replace the fasteners more often.)
It’s slightly cheaper to paint an existing metal roof. Most painters will charge $20 to $50 per square metre plus materials to clean, prep and paint your roof. By comparison, a COLORBOND replacement is likely to cost between $60 and $120 per square metre (including materials).
Keep in mind that painting is only suitable for refreshing a structurally sound, properly sealed metal roof. If your roof is damaged or corroded, a coat of paint won’t save it.
Depending on the age of your roof, it could also be more cost-effective to simply replace it. A new COLORBOND roof has a warranty period of around 45 years and can increase the value of your property (as well as improve thermal efficiency and sound dampening indoors).
